  Between two series, I have read a few other English books, which are more like appetizers before big meals. This Maze series has companied me through the last four months, and luckily, I finished all five books before the summer holiday ends.

  First of all, this series is surprisingly appropriate for what has happened in the world this year. The virus, called sun flares, infected and killed people on a massive scale and even, pushed those who had not died invented a new virus, in the hope of restoring the balance between human beings and the nature. Under such circumstances, the story of Thomas, Teresa, Newt and so many others hd been brought up. I felt so related to the description of keeping distance fronm the infected, implementing the quarantine, and washing your body thoroughly. More professionally, there were someone who had infected but had no symptons at the moment, and someone who were totally immune, like Thomas and Teresa. To achieve such knowledge, Dashiner must have done a huge amout of preparation and searching, especially considering this series was writen way before the covid-19. It could be regarded as a coincidence in terms of reading The Maze Runner this year, but I have definitely earned more by having the real background that humans keep fighting the pandemic everywhere and everytime on this planet.

  Besides, it must take such an effort to perfect the idea of the maze, the scorch, and the death cure. These three trials happened in the first three books, which also have been made into movie series. They were so mind-blowing and mysterious that I felt like having been through numerous adventures with Thomas and the others, but never got tired, just because every single one was so unique and extraordinary. I have grown a huge interest and somehow, compassion on Newt, who hurt my heart a lot. And to be honest, I did not fancy Teresa a lot, even after the last book revealing the history before the Maze wa built, which brought up another feature of this series, the order of those five books.

  As I said, you would have numerous adventures in the first three books, as the trials on the subjects were divided into three phases. In the end of the third one, there was peace and balance restored somewhere on Earth, and there was confession of Dr. Paige, the big boss who gave up on the trials and decided to leave the hope of the whole human race with Thomas and other immune people. However, a seemingly new story had developed in the forth book, which at first I lost interest for a bit, but immersed in again a few chapters later. Not until reading to the last page could one grasped the relation between the current and the previous books. And the last one went back to the story when Thomas and Teresa were kids, during which they established the relation with the Wicked and especially, Dr. Paige. I personally did not think it possible to recall all the details taking place in the trials, but it gave me a fuller picture of what life was like in their childhood. Plus, it explained how the "Thomas adventure group" had formed in the first place. I loved so much when Minho and Newt were at Thomas' side especially in the first two books, and I literally burst out laughing when some funny plot happened.

  All in all, the story of Thomas, Minho, Brenda and many others have ended here. It has been a great pleasure and honor to join this journey, not only for improving my language competence, no matter how much it had contributed, but also for stepping into a carzy world where the reality can find some trace. This series is genuinely good, and it goes so smoothly in language. I was intrigued by the movies, but I was glad I did not miss where all of this had started.
