  看的是新版的30单元，难度很大，不过坚持下来，效果不错，人家讲词根词缀不用瞎掰联想什么的，很靠谱，例句和解释也很经典，要重复多看，重要把例句看熟，词汇书必看，基础不好的要谨慎，恐怕会坚持不下去，花费时间会很多，我每个单元都花了j接近3小时....

  初识此书，是因为一位友人（

  ）的提及。我读书很慢，很大程度上依赖于靠谱的书评或者好友的推荐。受益良多，在此多谢。

  初初扫一眼目录，尽是单元号，不免有些失望。我已经没有靠高强度练习速推单词量的需求与精力，这样仅有数字牌毫无个性的目录，实在给我一个非常负面的印象。

  翻翻前言，本书的结构颇有些设计的心思，尤其是作者提到，词根的分布并不按照字母顺序，而是根据彼此的关系。就凭这一点，作者已经得了“认真”二字，值得一读。

  第一单元，8个词根，每个词根四个例词，加上由神话与历史演化而来的8个单词，共计40。

  对这40个单词的解说，作者旁征博引，仿佛信手捻花。设计例句，更是力求对单词含义与适用语境的淋漓体现。至此得博学二字。

  有言“文如其人”，但严谨的工具书一般把作者的面貌遮掩得密不透风。许多读者大抵有如此的体验：作者板着脸来一句，莎翁剧中如此如此。倘若对莎剧不熟，于我何益；倘若对莎剧透熟，想来也不是此书的读者了。

• 只就背单词之两本书个人感评

  关于韦小绿（《Merriam-Webster's Vocabulary Builder》)和《Word Power Made Easy》（以下简称WPEM）

      lz在二月20号到手韦小绿和WPME。之前在google上瞎逛，偶然看到这两本书得到极高的评价（百度上没找到什么有用的recommends)lz大概翻阅了两本书的introduction，也没看多少内容，恍然觉得WPME似乎更persuasive，稍作分析决定先用20天背完WPME，再过一遍韦小绿。

      三天奋战后，lz决定放弃。倒不是因为意志不坚或者中途得了包皮炎无法继续，这是一个纯粹的理性权衡。先告明下lz的基本信息，高考英语130，大学后两年啥也没学，侥幸裸考飞过6级，如今想要学点东西了。

      lz三天背完了两个chapter，第一章session1-3《HOW TO TALK ABOUT PERSONALITY TYPES》还算轻松，新单词不多，但已有不良预感。第二天扎入session4-6《HOW TO TALK ABOUT DOCTORS》，真的是各种医生各种病啊，有十来种皮肤病lz至今都还没弄明白（字典的解释全是“an infectious illness in which you have a fever and small red sopts on your face and body”）把LZ搞的晕头转向，或许只有当lz一一得过之后才能体察到个中真意吧。

      说到这里lz要向大家隆重推荐一款字典工具iphone-ipad版的LONGMAN DICTIONARY OF CONTEMPORARY ENGLISH 5TH。Edition3.9。装完后900mb。具体好在哪里就不赘言。很多用过的朋友会抱怨说这版本没法用啊，就算装了愚人节补丁不过几天又自动转到email页面。lz的做法是把devise的通用设置日期改回2011年4月1日之前（最好就3月30号什么的），然后放置不管，两天之后，又能正常使用了。两星期操作一次。如果大家觉得太为操蛋，那就买正版吧，对于真心想学好英语的同学，这性价比绝对够好了。

     回到WPME的问题，lz就直入主题：这书更适合native speaker。如果是为了考研或者单纯的背单词，lz并不推荐它。lz这里不列reason123，lz是个经验主义者，如果大家觉得lz说理不够明晰动人可以去尝试几个sessions，我们再做交流。

     放弃了WPME后，lz断然投奔韦小绿。

     这次lz臻字琢句的研究了introduction中的每一句话后，内心有高潮暗涌：这正是我想要的。

     词根记忆最有效率，例句也准确到位，特别是每个单词的explanatary paragraph，很具可读性。原文是这样描述的，“~~~may tell you more about the word's roots and its history.it may discuss additional meanings or provide additional example sentences.it may demonstrate the use of closely ralated words.and it may provide an informative or entertaining glimpse into a subject related to the word~~~”。。。

     韦小绿全书共30个unit，每个unit8个词根，每个词根下四个单词，加上每个unit最后8个words from mythology and history共40个单词。

     lz先是逐字逐句的过完一个unit，把其中除了黑体单词外的所有不认识的单词誊写在笔记本上。大概需要一个小时，一般一个unit这样的单词在70—90之间（不具统计意义，因人而异）。然后再用之前提到的朗文，把每个词记忆加存储在新建的书签文件夹中（朗文的特有功能），DIY了自己的单词簿。大概又是一个小时，这样就扫清了阅读障碍。接下来重新细心过一遍整个unit加quizzes，重点记忆粗体单词，并将之前背诵过又遗忘了的单词巩固一遍，平均下来一个小时。

     根据个人基础水平和spare time的差异，每天1到3个unit，一个月内定能过完整本书。

     这本书的奇特加上你自己的勤奋和坚持的结果就是“making the words part of your working vocabulary,the words that you can not only recognize when you see or hear them but that you can comfortably call on whenever you need them..astonishing your friends,amazing your relatives and astounding yourself...”
