  2017-35，偶然在省图借了这本书，完全不是讲素描，而是在激发读者用铅笔动手，书中的范例很有特点，适合初学者。20170320

  这和时间管理七堂课是一个问题，看似很全面，但又散又泛，什么都没讲，缺乏系统性，这样看来8.6分相当不真实。（ps：第二个案例里应该是普朗克的司机才对，并不是爱因斯坦）

  About the book

  Switching between civilization comfort and grubbiness hike, Bryson and Katz went through the Appalachian Trail, the most famous footpath in America. Bryson wrote with his distinctive humor. I have read three of his books, it seems he doesn’t make you laughed in a certain mode, he’s so witty and flexible that you can’t catch what he would tell you in next minute. I consider that this is what makes him a bestselling travel writer.

  Katz – the Partner:

  "Woods are not like other spaces…Their trees surround you, loom over you, press in from all sides. Woods choke off views and leave you muddled and without bearings. They make you feel small and confused and vulnerable, like a small child lost in a crowd of strange legs." It made you out-of-world, and your friend out-of-shape, Katz tried every part of his body to trudge forward, but still always half an hour behind you, it was great though, that made you feel "Well, I am not a bad hiker, is it?" When encountering an bear, his most powerful weapon is nail clipper (Seriously, your name is Stephen Katz, not Stephen Chow. Don’t make any lousy gag, You know this moment you clipped the bear’s nail, the next second she might probably claw your face.)

  After long hike, they would stop in small town, get some refilled and sleep in a motel. By interval, the first thing Katz would do is to buy soda, watch X-files. And the next morning, he would insist on staying for one more night to finish the last episode…..What a great Partner.

  Some parts in between, Bryson hiked without Katz. It doesn’t seem right, so I skipped fast forward, expecting his return.

  I love the last part, Katz spoke out how he suffered from trying not indulged in drinking, got lost in the woods, and finally reunited with Bryson.

  Life in woods

  How crazy it was to leave your job, be away from home for half an year to do such non-profitable thing. But I like it, love their journey, and even more i want to join them. It was strange, it was fascinating to be in a completely different world, without cellphone, without anyone could bother you, just trees and the beloved wild creatures. Here, you would be closer to the natural part of yourself. I love what Bryson brought me, 350 pages, from the very start to the very end.
